This quintessentially English painting shows a farm track leading down towards distant fields which are bleached with the intense heat of an unusually warm British summer.
We had a most enjoyable drive through the rolling hills of Derbyshire which is a county in the East Midlands of England. A substantial portion of the beautiful Peak District National Park lies within Derbyshire, and in the north the county overlaps with the famous chain of hills and mountains known as 'The Pennines'.
We were heading for Wales to do some family research, and were surprised by this vista as we rounded a corner on a country lane. Looking in the opposite direction, from the other side of the road, the view was just as beautiful - layer upon layer of fields of ripening crops bound by the hedgerows and old wooden gates so typical of England.
