Arizona Bristlecone Pine

Medium:
Acrylic on board
SKU: L-BCP-AC (NOT FOR SALE)

The vast desert areas of in the south west of continental USA have a harsh beauty that is totally unlike New Zealand's temperate island climate. Bristlecone pines, with their tortured trunks, typify the fight for survival of flora and fauna in such a climate.

But their seemingly tenuous hold on life is totally the opposite! For the oldest known continuously living organisms are trees. A bristlecone pine named 'Methuselah' located in California's White Mountains, is aged 4,768. But sperceding that by several millennia, is a spruce in Sweden. The visible portion of the spruce was comparatively new, but analysis of four "generations" of remains - cones and wood - found underneath its crown showed its root system had been growing for an amazing 9,550 years!

Lorraine, your work has been framed up and displayed for quite a few weeks already. I just want to tell you that almost everybody who has visited our home is attracted to it and said it's very nice and very interesting. None of my friends is an artist (they -- and myself too -- are just "ordinary" folks, ha) but the painting has brought them much enjoyment. The framer commented that the sense of depth is done very nicely.
