The fascinating limestone rocks of Castle Hill Basin lie directly behind the saw-toothed peaks of the Torlesse Range - the first of severalof the Southern Alps mountain ranges that we see across the farmland from our home.
The eroded cliffs and outcrops of this formation form the central point of interest of the valley. They provide fascinating landscapes which have been used as settings for many movies including the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and 'Narnia - The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe'.
