Castle Hill, an hour's drive from Christchurch on the way to Arthur's Pass - which crosses New Zealand's Southern Alps - is an area of great natural beauty.
A seam of limestone runs through the area, sprinkling the hills with dramatic formations.
Amongst this wild and wonderful 'Middle Earth' landscape, parts of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy was filmed, and today tourists are able to visit and identify areas that have become familiar to them through the films.
