Mandolin Mike, Downtown Nashville

Medium:
Acrylic on stretched canvas

Mike Slusser has been playing his mandolin on Broadway, Nashville Tennessee, since he moved to Nashville in 1998.

Most well-known as ''Mandolin Mike', Slusser has played in many of the Broadway clubs, but best of all he loves playing on the street where appreciative passersby snap up his CDs!

As an artist, I was attracted by the depth of colours in his waistcoat, and his skillful hands picking out their tune. Infact I though he made a wonderful composition for a painting and was delighted when he agreed!

Bolivian Market Women

Medium:
Acrylic on stretched canvas

A photographer friend who had visited Bolivia, offered me his photos for this painting.

I have pared away the surrounding distracting details to leave the two market-sellers sitting amidst their fruit and bags, and deep in conversation.

Summer Dress

Medium:
Acrylic on stretched canvas

While visiting a Heritage home ‘Open Day’ near my studio, a little girl caught my eye.

She was blissfully unaware of any onlookers as she made a cup of tea for a Teddy Bears' Picnic.

The soft toys were set out under the tall English trees planted by the Deans family – Canterbury pioneers who arrived in New Zealand from Scotland in 1840.

Country Jam

Medium:
Acrylic on stretched canvas

Artist Lorraine Jacobs was driving through downtown Nashville Tennessee (aka "Music City USA") when she spotted these two fellows 'jamming' on a street footpath.

The old-timer who hasn't ever quite 'made it' and the newly arrived young hopeful from down country somewhere have found in each other a willing partner for their impromptu concert.

This piece was a commission for Nashville's Craig Wiseman.
